There is a certain limitation/issue with the Standard CS15 BOM Where used list... while using the Variant Configuration process.
When we execute CS15 for a component used in the KMAT (Super) BOM, the report output does not only show the KMAT number, but also lists ALL the Material variants of that particular KMAT... even when many of those variants do not actually use this component!
SAP note 30604 virtually rules the option of using the CS15 to identify only KMATs and the select Material variants which use the component.

Symptom
The where-used list for a variant part of a standard product also lists stockable types for the standard product which do not contain the material in question.
Solution
There is no solution. However, please note the following:
At present, the object dependencies of variant parts cannot be taken into account in where-used lists. Characteristic values are therefore neither determined nor can they be entered.
Problems are caused in particular by the number of levels involved. This can mean that the characteristic value cannot be determined (uniquely) for a lower-level configurable material.
Consequently, there are only two display options remaining:
1. Display all stockable types for the standard product because they MIGHT contain the material you are searching for;
or
2. Display only the standard product - but not the stockable types - because usage of the variant part is not certain.
Case 1 has been implemented.
If some of you have found/used any alternate methods to address this requirement, kindly share the details/advise options.
